Shortly after I moved to Taos, New Mexico, some friends and I started a little folk band, basically just honing our chops and playing for meager tips... I was reading up on a lot of old English and Celtic folklore, and found that a stone with a naturally-occuring hole in it was a good luck charm called a hagstone. So, we were the "Hagstones" despite some serious protest from my two bandmates, pretty girls who wanted no association whatsoever with the word "hag!" Anyway, we weren’t bad, but I’ve never lived down that name. Left-to-right: Kirsten Parsons on mandolin, Kim Treiber on "dulcilute" and me on my Alvarez-yairi doubleneck acoustic guitar. |
